JSMP coordinates the following services to the north Florida Community
JSMP coordinates free athlete screenings for student-athletes in Duval County. JSMP provides this service in conjunction with the Duval County Medical Society through which physicians, allied healthcare professionals and non-clinical staff donate their time. Wolfson Children’s Hospital & Nemours Children’s Specialty Care each provide facilities and clinical resources for these screenings. These extensive athlete screenings are provided by a variety of volunteer family care providers, medical doctors and numerous physician subspecialists including: Orthopedic Surgeons representing various practices in Jacksonville, Pediatric Cardiologists through UF Health (including EKG and Echo exams, when indicated), physicians from the Mayo Clinic sports medicine fellowship program, physician assistants and students associated with Nova Southeastern University, the community asthma partnership and many others. We also provide vision screenings with the assistance of local Lions Clubs and nutritional assessments utilizing dieticians from Nemours Children’s Specialty Care and Wolfson Children’s Hospital.
This program takes place prior to the beginning of fall sports each year. Athletes and Parents should visit with your school’s certified athletic trainer, athletic director or coach for more information about this program.

Concussion Program & Baseline Testing
Our Concussion program provides resourceful information on sports-related concussion. Prevention strategies and baseline testing highlight our initial phase followed by post injury testing, if ordered by your child’s treating Physician. Concussion Baseline Testing is available through the certified athletic trainer within DCPS high schools. Many private schools also offer this service. Check with your school’s certified athletic trainer to verify availability. Baseline testing does not require a referral but does generally take place only on certain dates and times.
It is important to understand your child’s school policy on concussion to determine if this testing is a mandatory component or is offered as an option. Also, you should understand policies regarding return-to-play in the event an injury does occur.
Sporting Event Healthcare
JSMP facilitates on-site medical services for athletes during some high school sporting events. These services include Physicians, Certified Athletic Trainers & EMS providers for injury prevention, evaluation and triage. Annually, we host the First Coast Sports Injury Symposium along with a sports medicine lecture series. These opportunities represent our effort of educating our local providers and sports organizations on the best practice standards in sports medicine. View our website calendar for upcoming events.
